Amy Berend, a junior midfielder on the Texas A&M soccer team has been invited to participate in the U-21 National Team training camp that runs from Feb. 17-23 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
?We are excited that Amy has earned this opportunity to represent her country,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?She is a fabulous player and has continued to develop and mature as an international level player within our program. It?â„¢s exciting that she?â„¢ll be able to participate in the training camp and still make it back for our match against LSU, this Saturday. I strongly believe that anytime our players are in a national team setting, it?â„¢s good for them and consequently good for Texas A&M.?
Berend is one of 24 players attending the training camp in California. Among several scrimmages, the U-21s will play a pair of games against WNT head coach Greg Ryan?â„¢s senior side on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. (CDT)
Seven of the players on the U-21 roster were members of the U.S. team that participated in the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women?â„¢s World Championship.
Berend is the sixth of the current 16 Aggie soccer players to have been called up for National Team duty with the USA U-20 and U-21 teams. In 2003, Berend was a member of the U-19 National Team.
The Highland Village-native finished her junior campaign with four goals and five assists in 24 games played.
