Texas A&M women?â„¢s swimming signee Casey Hurrell-Zitelman (San Antonio) grabbed a third place finish in the women?â„¢s 1,000-yard freestyle on day one of the Speedo Championship Series: Southern Sectionals on Thursday evening at the Student Rec Center Natatorium.
Hurrell-Zitelman finished the 1,000 free in a time of 9:53.11, a time that will qualify her for USA Swimming nationals. The time would also rank No. 2 on the all-time Texas A&M list in the event.
Sophomore Sally Ranzau (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished fifth in the race, gliding to her fastest 1,000 free time of the season. Ranzau hit the wall in 10:07.12, a lifetime-best.
Sophomore Kylee Robinson (San Antonio), who is recovering from a viral illness incurred during the Big 12 Championships last week, finished 13th in 10:19.11.
The first full day of action at sectionals will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. with preliminaries. Finals are set to begin at 6 p.m.
