The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team fired a six-under-par 282 on Thursday and is tied for third place after two rounds of the John Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Course.

A&M trails leader UNLV (554) by 15 strokes going into Friday's final round. BYU is in second in the 22-team field at 564.

"We played a lot better today, moving up to third and putting ourselves in a position to win the tournament," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "Catching UNLV will not be easy, but we know we are capable of shooting some low scores on this course. We're excited about trying to put up a great score tomorrow."

UNLV's Jarred Texter (69-65=134) and SMU's Frank Wrenn (67-67=134) lead the individual standings at 10-under. A&M sophomore Bronson Burgoon is tied for 14th at 71-70=141, seven strokes behind the leaders.

A trio of Aggies are tied for 34th place -- freshman Austin Schauer (74-70=144) and juniors Martin Piller (71-73=144) and Robert Gates (71-73=144). Junior Trey Todd (76-69=145) is tied for 43rd, while sophomore Clay Hodge (72-71=143), competing as an individual, is tied for 25th.
