Aggie Riders Host TCU, Kansas State This Weekend

The Texas A&M equestrian team will host both Texas Christian University and Kansas State University this weekend at N.W. ?'Dick?â„¢ Freeman Arena.

The Aggies (6-1) will face the Horned Frogs (0-3) for the first time ever on Saturday at 1 p.m. A&M is coming off a pair of wins last weekend over Fresno State and New Mexico State. TCU came out on the short end of an 8-8 tiebreaker to Fresno State on Feb. 4 in their last time in the arena.

On the hunter seat side, the Aggies are being led by junior Katie Henion (Austin) and sophomore Christina Matz (McKinney). Henion, a two-time IHSA national championship show qualifier, has posted a 6-1 record over fences. Henion has won MVP rider honors over fences against Fresno State, Oklahoma State and New Mexico State. Matz is the only undefeated hunter seat rider with more than one appearance this season. She has been a perfect 5-0 in equitation on the flat

On the western side, A&M is getting undefeated contributions from several sources. Sophomore Tonna Brooks (Newberg, Ore.) is an incredible 10-0 on the season, having not lost in horsemanship or reining. Freshman Maggie Gratny (Leavenworth, Kan.) is a perfect 6-0 in reining with four MVP honors to her credit. Freshman Caroline Gunn (Greensburg, Ind.) has yet to drop match in horsemanship and three MVP awards on her season resume.

The Aggies will face Kansas State (3-5) at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. The 12th Man Team Rewards Program will be in attendance each day to scan its members. Among Sunday?â„¢s promotions will be the Aggie Equestrian ?'Extreme Makeover?â„¢.
