Jennifer Carey, who has served as Texas A&M?â„¢s director of volleyball operations the past two seasons, has been hired as an assistant volleyball coach at Georgia Tech, Yellow Jacket head coach Bond Shymansky announced today.

?Coaching at the collegiate Division I level has always been a goal of mine,? Carey said. ?I came to A&M to learn how the overall operations work at that level, and I am so thankful for the opportunity that the Aggie coaching staff and Texas A&M has given me. I?â„¢m leaving a great institution, and I appreciate the experience.?

A former standout setter at the University of Hawaii, Carey joined A&M coach Laurie Corbelli?â„¢s staff in 2005. Carey?â„¢s responsibilities included coordinating and organizing team travel, on-campus recruiting, tape exchange, equipment inventory and summer camps, exclusively for the volleyball program.

During her two-year stay in College Station, Carey also served as a coach for the Brazos Valley Volleyball Club, directing her teams to a 27-2 overall record.

?We are proud of Jenn for getting a Division I job at a very good program so early in her career? Corbelli said. ?We knew we were fortunate to have her as A&M?â„¢s director of operations, while she was able to see and experience the behind-the-scenes of a Division I program and get a good feel of the collegiate coaching profession.

?The Georgia Tech staff contacted her because of the respect people have for her in the sport. She?â„¢ll do an excellent job for them, and she has all the ingredients to have an outstanding coaching career. The Aggies are proud of her and look forward to following her success.?

Carey replaces Sally Polhamus, who accepted the head coaching position at Winthrop after assisting the Yellow Jackets to a 20-12 record in 2006.
