Texas A&M sophomore swimmer Marissa Jasek (San Antonio) earned a silver medal in the 100-yard freestyle to highlight the A&M action on day two of the Speedo Championship Series: Southern Sectionals on Friday evening at the Student Rec Center Natatorium.
Jasek, a three-time Big 12 finalist a week ago for the Aggies, finished second in the championship final at the Speedo meet with an NCAA consideration time of 50.65. Jasek was the top qualifier in the morning session with a clocking of 50.58.
Freshman Sarah Woods (Birmingham, Ala.) finished fourth in the championship heat of the 100 free, hitting the NCAA ?'B?â„¢ standard on the nose at 50.97. Junior Chelsea Helgason (Olympia, Wash.) came in one place behind Woods at 51.31, a lifetime-best.
A&M signee Casey Hurrell-Zitelman (San Antonio) finished sixth in the championship final of the 200-yard butterfly. Hurrell-Zitelman hit the wall in 2:05.03 after qualifying in 2:04.61 during the morning session.
Aggie sophomore Sally Ranzau (Alpharetta, Ga.) won the consolation final in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.96 while senior Whitney Thomson (Allen) took first in the bonus section of the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.46.
Day three at sectionals will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. with preliminaries. Finals are set to begin at 6 p.m.
