The defending Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team will continue spring season play Saturday as it hosts LSU in its first full-sided match. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
?We're looking forward to the LSU game,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. "The Tigers are talented team, and this the first chance for us to play in a full 11-v-11 format. The spring is a very important developmental portion of our year. So, with the small number of healthy players currently on our roster (14 field players), this will be a great opportunity for all those players to make a big contribution."
The Tigers finished the 2006 season with an overall record of 9-8-3 and were 4-4-3 in the Southeastern Conference, their first winning season since the 2003 campaign and their most wins in league play since posting five in the 2000 season.
Texas A&M finished the season ranked No. 5 after posting a 17-6-1 overall record and going 9-1-0 in conference, capturing their third-consecutive Big 12 regular season title. A&M was awarded one of four No. 2 national seeds in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. The Aggies made their third career Elite Eight appearance, dropping a tough 3-2 decision to eventual national champion North Carolina to bring their season to a close.
Admission to the match is free. After the LSU match, the Aggies will continue Spring play with games against BYU (3/22), the USA U20 National Team (3/25) and Florida (3/31).
