Texas A&M senior pitcher Kyle Nicholson was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
The right-hander from College Station, Texas, earned two wins in two appearances last week to improve his 2007 record to 3-1.
For the week, Nicholson pitched a total of 12 2/3 innings. He struck out a total of 13 hitters and did not issue a walk.
In Tuesday?™s 9-5 win over Texas-Arlington, Nicholson lasted seven innings in his first start of the season. He allowed two runs on just four hits, while striking out seven.
Saturday, Nicholson entered the game with the Aggies trailing 4-0 with one out in the third. He held the Gamecocks scoreless the rest of the way, facing just two batters over the minimum in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and allowed just three hits to lead A&M to a come-from-behind, 6-4 victory.
