The Texas A&M football team drilled for two-and-a-half hours in shorts and helmets on Wednesday at the grass practice fields.

?I thought it was good,? Aggie head coach Dennis Franchione said. ?It was better than yesterday. (There was some) first day anxiety for some guys (on Tuesday). We?™ve gotten a lot accomplished, a lot of installation. The carryover for the older guys is really good, which helps the young guys see and learn. We put on the pads on tomorrow so I?™m sure it will be a little rougher, but we?™ve gotten a lot of good work done with just shorts and helmets.?

Franchione was asked about his early impressions of the players who made position changes for the spring drills.

?We talked about them in our staff meeting (Wednesday) morning after one practice and everyone was very encouraged about the moves,? Franchione said. ?It?™s way too early to call them a success, but we like the beginning of it.?

The Aggies return to the practice field on Thursday afternoon and spring practice is open to the public.
