Texas A&M volleyball assistant coach Robyn Romansky has been selected to serve as an assistant coach for one of two U.S. Women?â„¢s National A2 teams that will compete at the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships held in Austin, Texas, between May 26 and June 2, USA Volleyball recently announced.
?This is a great opportunity for me not only to represent Texas A&M, but to stay involved with USA Volleyball and assist them in return for the opportunity they provided me earlier in my career,? said Romansky, who spent three years as technical coordinator for the USA Women?â„¢s National Team. ?It also is important for me to stay involved at the elite level and to gain new ideas and growth in knowledge as I continue to progress as a coach.?
A total of 20 collegiate athletes were selected for the A2 program and will train under the guidance of the A2 coaching staff the week leading up to the Adult Open. Based on training evaluations, the coaching staff will form two 10-member squads to compete in the event.
?The A2 members are all National Team hopefuls,? Romansky added. ?USA Volleyball has identified their potential, and this will be an opportunity to further evaluate their talents and to train them and help keep them in the pipeline. I expect several of the players to eventually be training with the National Team during their careers as they pursue their dreams of playing in the Olympics.?
Jim Stone, the head women?â„¢s volleyball coach at Ohio State University, and Paula Weishoff, head women?â„¢s volleyball coach at Concordia University (Calif.), have been selected to serve as the head coaches. Matt McShane, University of California-Berkeley women?â„¢s assistant volleyball coach, will serve as the other assistant coach.
?We are very excited about the 2007 Women's A2 staff,? USA Volleyball managing director of High Performance Tom Pingel said in a prepared statement. ?Not only do these four coaches have a wealth of knowledge and come from various backgrounds, all four have significant experience in working with the USA Women's National Team or affiliated Pipeline Programs.?
Romansky, a member of the A&M Class of ?â„¢01, joined the Texas A&M coaching staff in 2004 following her three years with the USA Women?â„¢s National Volleyball Team that culminated in the Olympic Games at Athens, Greece. The Hallettsville, Texas, native has maintained a close relationship with USA Volleyball since returning to Aggieland, serving as technical coordinator for the National Team at the 2005 Montreaux Volley Masters and also serving as coach of the Lonestar Region at USA Volleyball?â„¢s High Performance Championships last summer. In addition, the former Robyn Johnson is a member of USA Volleyball?â„¢s CAP (Coaching Accreditation Program) cadre, a group of volleyball coaches that educates coaches and helps enhance the sport.
