Texas A&M junior Amanda Scarborough was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for games of April 16-22, the league office announced Tuesday. It is the fourth weekly award for Scaborough.
Scarborough did not surrender any runs in 14 innings of work to extend her streak to 30.1 consecutive scoreless innings. The last time she allowed an earned run was during the fifth inning against Oklahoma on April 1. The Magnolia, Texas junior earned two wins in the two games she pitched, improving her record to 19-4. She allowed just three hits while striking out 12 batters and holding opponents to a .064 average.
At the plate, Scarborough recorded three RBI and hit a home run against Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma junior shortstop Savannah Long was named Big 12 Player of the Week. The Midwest City, Okla. native led the Sooners to sweeps of No. 7 Baylor and Nebraska. Long tallied three home runs, including a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh with two outs that gave OU the 10-9 victory over the Huskers. She also compiled a .385 batting average with five RBI on 14 total bases. Entering the week, Long had three home runs but hit three this week alone, including two in one game against NU to finish the week with a 1.077 slugging percentage.
To start the week, Long sparked the OU offense in a 7-4 win in the series finale against Baylor with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. The junior shortstop paced the Sooners with a 2-for-3 outing with two RBI to end her five-game hitting drought.
