Incoming Texas A&M freshman DeAndre Jordan is one of 12 players named to the USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team that will represent the United States in the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship July 12-22 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
The USA squad will also participate in the 2007 Global Games and will meet team Africa on Thursday (8 p.m.) and Puerto Rico?â„¢s U19 National Team on Friday (6 p.m.). The finals will be on Saturday at SMU's Moody Coliseum.
Two other incoming freshmen at A&M -- B.J. Holmes and Nathan Walkup -- will participate in the Group B division as members of the Global Games AA team. All three players are from the Houston area.
Other members of the USA U19 squad are Darrell Arthur (Kansas / Dallas, Texas); Michael Beasley (Notre Dame Prep, Mass./ Frederick, Md.); Patrick Beverley (Arkansas / Chicago, Ill.): Matt Bouldin (Gonzaga / Highlands Ranch, Colo.); Stephen Curry (Davidson / Charlotte, N.C.); Jonny Flynn (Niagara Falls H.S. / Niagara Falls, N.Y.); Donte?â„¢ Greene (Towson Catholic H.S. / Baltimore, Md.); David Lighty (Ohio State / Cleveland, Ohio); Raymar Morgan (Michigan State / Canton, Ohio); Tajuan Porter (Oregon / Detroit, Mich.); and Deon Thompson (North Carolina / Torrance, Calif.).
The team is coached by DePaul head coach Jerry Wainwright. Drexel's Bruiser Flint and George Washington's Karl Hobbs are the assistant coaches. Members of the U19 team must have been born on or after Jan. 1, 1988
The USA U19 World Championship Team defeated China, 91-75, on Sunday in Dallas in its first exhibition game. Jordan scored seven points with two rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
