A trio of Texas A&M freshmen were on display in Saturday's battle for the gold medal at the Global Games.
DeAndre Jordan scored 10 points with three rebounds to help lift Team USA to the championship with an 86-72 win against Global Games AA, which featured Jordan's future Aggie teammates B.J. Holmes and Nathan Walkup. Holmes scored four points with three assists and three steals, while Walkup added five points.
Team USA finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 mark and improved its overall exhibition record to 4-0. The USA U19 squad left Sunday for Serbia, where it will represent the United States in the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship (players must be born on or after Jan. 1, 1988) starting on Thursday and continuing through July 22.
The United States opens world championship play on Thursday against Mali in the opening game of the preliminary round, then meets China on Friday and closes out preliminary round play against host Serbia on Saturday. Second round play is set for July 16-18, followed by the quarterfinals on July 20, the semifinals on July 21 and the finals on July 22.
