Texas A&M swept both Washington State and Montana State today to capture the Holiday Inn Classic championship at Shroyer Gymnasium. It marks the Aggies?â„¢ second consecutive tournament title, having won their own tournament last weekend.
Aggie sophomore outside hitter Sarah Ammerman was named the tournament?â„¢s Most Valuable Player. She was joined on the all-tournament team by junior middle blocker Jillian Phillips and sophomore setter Kristen Schevikhoven.
A&M handed Washington State (6-1) its first loss of the season in the morning match as Ammerman posted a match-high 18 kills and Phillips hit .714 with a career-high 11 kills to lead A&M to a 30-28, 30-18, 30-20 victory over the Cougars.
Ammerman and sophomore outside hitter Mary Batis recorded double doubles in the Aggies?â„¢ 30-19, 30-18, 30-25 victory over MSU (0-7). Ammerman posted a match-high 14 kills and tallied 10 digs. Batis had 10 kills and led all players with 12 digs.
A&M improves to 6-0 on the season and has yet to drop a single game.
The Aggies return to the road on Tuesday, traveling to San Marcos, Texas, to take on the Texas State Bobcats. Match time is 7 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.
