The No. 19-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team closed with a

301 on Tuesday and finished 11th in its season opener at the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Country Club.

Notre Dame captured the title against the 20-team field with an 870 total, edging runner-up Tennessee (871) by a single stroke. The Aggies carded rounds of 297-299-301=897.

Notre Dame's Lisa Mauna won the individual crown by three shots with a six-under total of 66-74-70=210.

Freshman Sarah Zwartynski led the Aggies in her college debut, tying for 17th place (71-72-76=219). Sophomore Ashley Freeman tied for 31st (76-75-72=223), junior Lauren Johnson tied for 42nd (71-76-78=225), junior Jodi Neal tied for 73rd (79-80-76=235) and freshman Sara Hemingway tied for 83rd (85-76-77=238).

The Aggies played without All-America candidate Danielle McVeigh, who is representing her native Ireland at the Ladies' Home International Matches starting on Wednesday in Scotland.

The Aggies return to action Oct. 5-7 at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
