Two-time Texas A&M All-American Ray Childress will be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the TSHOF induction committee announced Wednesday.
Childress, originally from Pearce High School in Dallas, Texas, was a four-year starter for the Aggies from 1981-84 and earned All-America honors as a junior and senior. The imposing Childress remains the school record holder for career tackles by a defensive lineman with 360 stops. Childress posted 25 quarterback sacks during his career, which ranks No. 5 in school history, and his single game (4) and season (15) sack totals are tied for No. 2 in the Aggie record book.
Childress was the first-round draft pick of the Houston Oilers in 1985 and played 12 seasons in the NFL. The No. 2 sacker in Oilers history, Childress played in five NFL Pro Bowls and was named to the All-NFL team three times.
