The Texas A&M women's golf team opened with a 302 on Friday and is tied for ninth place after the first round of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the University of North Carolina's Finley Golf Course.

The Aggies trail leader Wake Forest (295) by just seven strokes going into Saturday's second round. The tournament concludes on Sunday.

Tulsa is one shot back at 296, followed by Vanderbilt (297), Tennessee (297), Georgia (298), Virginia (299), Auburn (301), North Carolina State (301), A&M, Duke (302), Florida State (306), North Carolina (306), Texas (306), Kentucky (307), South Carolina (311), East Carolina (311), College of Charleston (312) and Oklahoma State (314).

Tulsa's Michaela Cavener is the individual leader after a four-under-par 68. A&M's Lauren Johnson, Danielle McVeigh and Sarah Zwartynski are tied for 21st after carding 75s.

The Aggies' Ashley Freeman shot a 77 and is tied for 41st and Jodi Neal had an 87 and is in 93rd place.
