All-American Megan Gibson and the Maroon Team posted a dominating 10-1 victory in Tuesday?â„¢s opening game of the Maroon & White Series at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Gibson was responsible for not only shutting down the White offense with five complete innings in the circle, giving up just three hits and one run, but the Aggies?â„¢ career homerun leader also contributed at the plate giving the Maroon Team a commanding 6-0 lead with her two-run bomb in the fourth inning.
The Maroon Team posted two runs in the first and two more in the second inning before Ronda Smith drilled a three-run, two-out double into the right centerfield gap in the fifth, bringing the run-rule into effect.. Macie Morrow crossed the plate earlier in the same inning.
The White Team posted its only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Amanda Scarborough drove home Jami Lobpries with a sharply hit double. Lobpries reached base with her second walk of the contest.
Rhiannon Kleising was charged with the loss for the white team, giving up six earned runs in three and 2/3 innings. Scarborough worked the remaining inning and 1/3 allowing four runs to score.
The best-of-three series will continue Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
