The White team posted a two run third inning to take the lead as it cruised to a 5-2 victory and the Maroon & White Series title on Thursday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Amanda Scarborough started the scoring early for the White team, driving in Jami Lobpries who reached base on an error in the first inning.
Maroon, the designated home team, plated their only two runs of the game in the bottom half of the frame. The White team countered by adding two runs of their own in the third, when junior shortstop Holly Ridley drove in Scarborough and Lobpries who?â„¢d reached on a single and error, respectively.
Ridley would record her third RBI of the game with a two-out solo shot in the fifth. White sealed the victory by adding an insurance run in the sixth to win the series, two games to one. Freshman Kelsey Spittler reached on an error and stole second before Lobpries brought her home with a double.
Freshman right hander Rhi Kliesing earned the victory for the White team by pitching a complete game in the circle. Kleising allowed just two hits while striking out three Maroon batters.
Junior right fielder, Ronda Smith was responsible for driving in Maroon?â„¢s runs in the first inning when she lined a double that plated Macie Morrow and Megan Gibson who had both drawn walks.
The Texas A&M softball team will open regular season play on Friday, Feb. 8 against the New Mexico State Aggies at the Cathedral City Kickoff in Cathedral City, Calif.
