The Texas A&M men?â„¢s tennis team continues to advance at the ITA South Central Regional Championship held Sunday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Junior Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) advanced to the quarterfinals in singles by skillfully defeating SMU's David Kuczer, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 32 and Baylor's Jordan Rux, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, in the round of 16. Along with sophomore transfer Chris Chirico (Philadelphia, Pa.), the Aggie doubles pair knocked down UTSA?â„¢s Fernandes and Moreiras in an 8-1 victory in the round of 16.
Freshman Kayvon Karimi (Dallas, Texas) received a bye in consolation singles play which continues tomorrow. Senior Matt Bain (Georgetown, Texas) also advanced in consolation play with straight-set victories over players from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas Arlington.
?Conor continues to distinguish himself with his two quality results and his leadership he brings to the team,? Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. ?Conor and Chris had good double matches today. I was also encouraged by Matt Bain, who struggled to find his form, but still ended with good results. I was very pleased with how the guys played today.?
The Aggies continue tournament play tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. with Pollock scheduled to play TCU?â„¢s Kriegler Brink and Bain to play Louisiana-Lafayette?â„¢s Jorge Delgado in singles, followed by a showdown in doubles at 1:30 p.m. between Pollock and Chirico versus Barriga and Damico of Texas.
