The Texas A&M men?â„¢s tennis team continued to advance at the ITA South Central Regional Championship held Sunday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center on the University of Texas campus.
Junior Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) advanced to the quarterfinals in singles by defeating David Kuczer of SMU, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 32, and then beating Jordan Rux of Baylor, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, in the round of 16. In doubles, Pollock teamed with sophomore transfer Chris Chirico (Philadelphia, Pa.) to down UTSA?â„¢s Robin Fernandes and Daniel Moreiras, 8-1, to advance to the quarters.
In other action, senior Matt Bain (Georgetown, Texas) tallied a pair of wins in the consolation bracket over Mike Pavlov of A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-4, 7-5, and Hugo Taracido of UTA, 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Kayvon Karimi (Dallas, Texas) received a bye in consolation play that will continue Monday.
?Conor continues to distinguish himself with his two quality results and his leadership he brings to the team,? Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. ?Conor and Chris had a good double match today. I was also encouraged by Matt Bain, who struggled to find his form, but still ended with good results. I was very pleased with how the guys played today.?
The Aggies continue play Monday beginning at 8 a.m. with Pollock scheduled to play TCU?â„¢s Kriegler Brink and Bain to play ULL?â„¢s Jorge Delgado in singles, followed by a showdown in doubles when Pollock and Chirico take on Texas' Luis Diaz Barriga and Kellen Damico at 1:30 p.m.
