Texas A&M?â„¢s Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) earned a spot in the singles final at the ITA South Central Regional Championship Monday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Pollock, ranked No. 37 nationally in the preseason ITA/FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, defeated 2006 Wimbledon Junior Doubles Champion Kellen Damico of Texas, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-0, in the semifinals. He will take on No. 78-ranked Denes Lukacs of Baylor tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Both players earned berths to the ITA National Indoor Championship on Nov. 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
In consolation play, senior Matt Bain (Georgetown, Texas) reached the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory over Louisiana-Lafayette?â„¢s Jorge Delgado, while freshman Kayvon Karimi (Dallas, Texas) lost in a close third-set super tiebreaker versus Texas Tech?â„¢s Ilya Babinciuc, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0.
Several matches were pushed back throughout the day due to rainy conditions in Austin. In the doubles draw, Pollock combined with sophomore Chris Chirico (Philadelphia, Pa.) and fell in the quarterfinals to the Texas duo of Luis Diaz Barriga and Kellen Damico, 8-5.
