Texas A&M?â„¢s Conor Pollock will compete at the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships held on Nov. 1-4 at The Racquet Club of Columbus in Columbus, Ohio.
The San Antonio native will face second-ranked Steven Moneke of Ohio State in the first round on Thursday. Pollock is the first A&M player in two years to qualify for college tennis?â„¢ premier fall tournament. All-American Jerry Makowski was the last Aggie to reach the ITA National Indoors as a sophomore in 2005.
Pollock qualified for the 32-player singles main draw as a Wilson/ITA South Central Region finalist after defeating 2006 Wimbledon Junior Doubles Champion Kellen Damico of Texas in the semifinals of the ITA South Central Regional Championships on Oct. 22 in Austin, Texas. He is currently ranked No. 37 in the preseason ITA/FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
?What I like about Conor is that his game is well suited for indoor tennis,? Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. ?This tournament will give him an opportunity to add flexibility to his game with the quicker conditions.?
The ITA National Indoors is hosted by Ohio State and features the best singles and doubles players in the nation. Pollock joins an elite group of Aggies to reach the indoor tournament including All-Americans Makowski, Lester Cook, Ante Matijevic, Dumitru Caradima and Shuon Madden.
