Texas A&M women?â„¢s basketball shooting guard Takia Starks (Houston, Texas) is featured in the December issue of SLAM Magazine available on newsstands across the country.

The cousin of former NBA star John Starks who played for the New York Knicks from 1990-98, the younger Starks appears on pages 13 and 44 in the publication. A preseason candidate for the prestigious John R. Wooden Award, Starks is a returning 2007 All-Big 12 Conference First Team selection and is averaging a team-leading 15.5 points per game this season.

?She?â„¢s got one of the best jump shots in the Big 12,? said Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair in the article written by Damian Andrew. ?She can get it off in a telephone booth and is extremely versatile.?

Starks and her defending Big 12 champion teammates have led A&M to its current No. 11 national ranking and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances under Blair. She is a product of Houston?â„¢s Westfield High School and is the daughter of Vernon and Debra Starks.
