Texas A&M center Cody Wallace has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second team, the CoSIDA committee announced today. The selections for the Academic All-American team are based on player?™s performance in the classroom as well as on the field.
In the classroom, Wallace has already graduated with a Bachelor?™s degree in Sports Management and is currently working towards a Master?™s degree while playing his final season for the Aggies. The definition of a student-athlete, Wallace posted an impressive 3.42 GPA in his undergraduate coursework while leading the Aggies to three bowl games in the past four years. Academic awards are nothing new for Wallace as he is a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 football team and a two-time member of the Academic All-District Squad.
On the field, the senior from Cuero has started 36 straight games at center for the Aggies and was recently voted a permanent team captain by his teammates for the second straight season. Wallace anchored an offensive line that paved the way for one of the most prolific rushing attacks in college football this season. Behind Wallace and the offensive line, the Aggies racked up 4,883 yards of total offense and scored 29 touchdowns on the ground alone.
The distinguished academic honor for Wallace comes just a day after being named a finalist for the prestigious Rimington Trophy and two days removed from being named the Big 12 Conference?™s offensive lineman of the year.
