Scott Migl did not allow an earned run in six-complete innings and every Texas A&M starter had at least one hit by the end of the fourth inning Tuesday night as the No. 14 Aggies defeated TCU 13-2 at Olsen Field.
Migl (3-1) retired the side in order in four of his six innings and allowed just one walk, while striking out two.
Brodie Greene led the way offensively for A&M, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Brandon Hicks and Parker Dalton each chipped in with three hits. Hicks also drove in four runs and Darby Brown had three RBI.
?The biggest thing I did not want to have happen was for Sunday?™s result to carry over,? A&M head coach Rob Childress said. ?As long as we keep competing hard we are going to be fine. The players were ready to play tonight and this was one of our most complete games of the year.?
With the win, A&M improved to 23-5, while TCU dropped to 18-8. It was the first time the two teams faced each other since the Southwest Conference folded in 1996.
The Aggies took the early lead by scoring a pair of runs on the bottom of the first. Hicks led off the inning by taking the first pitch he saw from TCU starter Tyler Lockwood over the wall in left. It was his fourth of the season and second in as many games. Ben Feltner beat out a bunt single, moved to second on a ground out and scored all the way from second on a ground out to second by Brown.
TCU responded with two unearned runs in the top of the second to tie the game at two. Corey Steglich blasted a two-run homer that also scored Matt Vern. The inning was prolonged because of two fielding errors.
Brown drove in another run in the bottom of the third when he singled home Ben Feltner, who doubled to lead off the inning.
A&M blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth by scoring seven runs on seven hits. Four straight singles by Josh Stinson, Greene, Dalton and Hicks scored the first run. Blake Stouffer singled and Brown drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left. Kyle Colligan legged out an infield single to plate a run and a wild throw by reliever Donald Furrow allowed another urn to score. Luke Anders belted his fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot over the wall in left center to make the score 10-2.
The Aggies tacked on two more in the fifth and another in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Lockwood (1-1) lasted three-plus innings and allowed four runs on seven hits.
Matt Ueckert retired all six men he faced in two innings of relief and Travis Starling retired the side in order in the ninth.
A&M returns to action this weekend when the Aggies host Nebraska at Olsen Field in a three-game Big 12 series. First pitch Friday is set for 6:30 p.m. (CDT).
