
Aggies Tied for Fourth at Inverness Intercollegiate

Senior Martin Piller carded a three-under total of 69-72=141 on Monday to lead Texas A&M into a tie for fourth place after the opening two rounds of the Inverness Intercollegiate at Inverness Golf Club.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday.
With a two-round total of 579, A&M trails leader Florida State by 11 strokes. Michigan State is in second (571) followed by Louisville in third (578). Indiana is tied with A&M.
Florida is in sixth at 580, followed by Southern California (582), TCU (584), Toledo (586), Kentucky (592), Oklahoma State (594), Kent State (599), Missouri (602), Michigan (604), UNLV (609) and UNC Greensboro (616).
Piller is tied for third in the individual standings and trails leader Jonas Blixt of Florida State (67-68=135) by six strokes.
A&M sophomore Andrea Pavan is tied for ninth (72-71=143), senior Robert Gates is tied for 18th (74-71=145, junior Clay Hodge is tied for 49th (78-73=151) and junior Matt Van Zandt is tied for 60th (77-75=152).
"It wasn't a bad start to the season, but we have a lot of things to work on," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "We hit a lot of good shots and played hard, but we also threw a lot of shots away. This is great field and we are beating a lot of great teams, but hopefully we can go out tomorrow and play more like we're capable."
