Facey lowers her school record in 60 with 7.28 win

Simone Facey stood out in a major way for the Aggies during the second day of the Razorback Invitational as she broke her own school record in the 60 meters with a winning time of 7.28 on Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Meanwhile, Ashika Charan nearly clipped the school record in the triple jump as she posted a winning distance of 43-6 ?˝ (13.27).

Texas A&M women closed out the two-day meet with a convincing victory in the 4 x 400 relay, where they posted a winning time of 3:35.32. The foursome of Sandy Wooten, Jennifer Williams, Simone Facey and Jessica Beard recorded the fifth best performance on the Aggie indoor all-time list as they became the No. 4 team.

Leading the men?™s effort was a third-place finish by Gerald Phiri in the 60 meters. The British newcomer recorded a time of 6.71 in the final, becoming the No. 3 performer with the No. 6 performance on an impressive A&M all-time list. Phiri only trails a 6.67 by Tyrone Edgar and a 6.70 set by Billy Fobbs.

In the prelims of the Phiri defeated Wallace Spearmon (6.75 to 6.76), a former Razorback who was a bronze medalist in the 200 during the 2007 World Championships. Spearmon ran 6.70 as a runner-up in the consolation final.

Facey?™s last indoor meet in 2007 was on this track during the NCAA Indoor Championships, where she set the current school record of 7.29. Her first meet of the season opened with the fastest qualifying time of 7.38.

In the final that included four Aggies among the seven entrants, Facey lead a 1-3-5-7 finish for A&M. On a very close finish with LSU?™s Juanita Broaddus, Facey was awarded the win when the times were viewed to the 1000th of a second, 7.272 to 7.277. They both were just shy of the NCAA automatic standard of 7.26.

Porscha Lucas finished third in 7.39 while Elizabeth Adeoti was clipped by Baylor?™s Tiffany Townsend for fourth place, 7.48 to 7.49. Gabby Mayo finished seventh in 7.55.

In the consolation final Khrystal Carter placed second in 7.53 while Beard finished third in 7.62.

During the prelims the times posted by the sprint group included heat wins by Facey 7.38, Lucas 7.41, Mayo 7.51, and Carter 7.55, while Allison George (7.52), Adeoti (7.53) and Beard (7.59) had runner-up efforts.

Charan just missed the Aggie top mark of 43-7 ?ľ (13.30) in becoming the No. 2 performer in the event as she tied the mark set last year by current teammate Yasmine Regis. The previous best indoor mark for Charan was a 42-8 ?Ľ (13.01) set during the Big 12 meet last season.

Angela Thomas finished third in the triple jump with an indoor best of 40-11 (12.47) while newcomer Tiffany Peters placed eighth with a jump of 39-4 ?˝ (12.00). Thomas and Peters are currently No. 8 and No. 9 on the A&M indoor all-time list.

The women?™s 4 x 4 squad defeated a section that included LSU (3:37.19), Arkansas (3:37.52), and Baylor (3:42.53).

A second foursome, which consisted of Carter, Adeoti, Lindsey Adams and Lucas clocked a heat winning time of 3:45.16 to place fifth overall.

In the 60 hurdles Jennifer Williams recorded a personal best as the runner-up to LSU?™s Jessica Ohanaja. Williams ran 8.30 while Ohanaja won in 8.14. Adams placed sixth with a 8.55 clocking. Williams, who also ran 8.35 in the prelims, is tied with Rosa Jolivet at No. 3 on the Aggie all-time list with the sixth best performance.

Before leading off the winning 4 x 400 relay, Sandy Wooten placed third overall in the open 400 as the lone A&M entrant. She set an indoor best of 54.47, which makes her the No. 3 performer on the Aggie indoor list, as a runner-up to LSU?™s Latavia Thomas (53.99) and just missed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 54.40. Nickiesha Wilson of LSU was the overall winner with a 53.66 clocking.

For the second consecutive week Evelyn Wing recorded a personal best in the 800, running 2:16.31 to place third. She improved upon her No. 6 standing on the A&M all-time list.

Kevin Ondrasek set a personal indoor best of 4:08.74 in placing third in the mile. He moves up to No. 6 on the Aggie indoor list. Ondrasek led the first half of the race, coming through 400 meters in 60.63 and the 800 in 2:02.14. Matt Ross ran third for most of the race and finished fifth with a time of 4:11.45, which is No. 11 on the A&M list.

Trinity Otto completed the second day of the heptathlon, scoring 4908 for fourth place. He was just 30 points shy of cracking the A&M top 10 list. Otto?™s second day included an 8.92 in the 60 hurdles (764 points), a 12-11 ?˝ pole vault (603) and a 2:55.57 (708) clocking in the 1,000 meters.

Cade Liverman placed fifth in the 60 hurdles with an 8.08 clocking. Kevin McNab challenged the school record in the Championship 3,000 meters as he placed sixth in 8:11.25, becoming the No. 4 performer and No. 5 performance on the A&M indoor list.

Nick Toohey finished seventh in his section of the Championship 800, running 1:51.05 and placed seventh overall. His effort in an event where he holds the school record of 1:50.09, was the No. 6 performance on the Aggie all-time list.

In the 4 x 400 relay, the Aggie men ran two squads. The quartet of Bryant McCombs, Chris Dykes, Nick Robinson and Oliver placed fourth in their section and fifth overall with a 3:10.58.

The other crew consisted of Brandon Machacek, A.C. Robinson, Bryan Miller and Morquise Cleveland. They ran 3:11.53 to place third in their section and seventh overall.

Running 47.35 in the 400 netted Justin Oliver fourth place as he raced in a section of professional athletes, which was won by Kelly Willie in 46.54. Oliver placed seventh overall.

Joe Sauvageau took seventh place in an early morning 3,000 meter race, running 8:37.56.

Richard Adu-Bobie placed seventh in the 60 final, running 6.83 after posting the same time during the prelims. In the consolation final Dominique Stafford placed fourth in 6.83 while Brandon Lowe finished eighth in 6.90.

Personal best marks were claimed by Jennifer Davidson and Laura Asimakis in the pole vault as they finished 10th and 11th in the event. Davidson moved to No. 2 performer with the No. 10 performance on the Aggie indoor list with a clearance of 12-4 ?˝ (3.77) while Asimakis became the No. 4 vaulter with a mark of 11-10 ?˝ (3.62).

Brenna Williamson (10:08.68) and Christina Munoz (10:14.72) placed 10th and 12th in the women?™s championship race of the 3,000 meters.
