The No. 25-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team opened with a 304 on Monday and is in 10th place after the first round of the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club.

The tournament continues through Wednesday.

The Aggies are 16 strokes behind No. 2 UCLA, which leads at 288, but is only six strokes behind a group of four teams -- Southern California, No. 5 Florida No. 16 Pepperdine and BYU -- who are tied for second at 298.

No. 24 Stanford (300) is in sixth, followed by No. 17 Wake Forest (301), No. 4 Arizona State (302), No. 15 Oklahoma State (303), A&M (304), TCU (306), No. 9 Arizona (308), Ohio State (309), No. 23 Michigan State (312) and No. 7 Denver (316).

A&M was led by sophomores Danielle McVeigh and Ashley Freeman, who carded 4-over-par 75s. Junior Lauren Johnson is tied for 31st (76), freshman Sarah Zwartynski is tied for 46th (78) and senior Miranda Orr is tied for 65th (80). Freeman played the final nine in even-par.

TCU's Valentine Derrey and Pepperdine's Taylore Karle are the individual leaders after one-under 70s.
