No. 25-ranked Texas A&M carded a 298 on Tuesday and climbed into fifth place at the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club. The final round is Wednesday.
Sophomore Danielle McVeigh and junior Lauren Johnson led the Aggies' charge with one-over-par 72s. McVeigh played her last 14 holes in even-par while Johnson shot one-under on the back nine. A&M was in 10th place after Monday's opening round.
With a two-round total of 304-298=602, the Aggies are 16 shots behind No. 3 Southern California, which leads at 586. No. 2 UCLA is in second at 587, followed by No. 5 Florida (589) and No. 4 Arizona State (598). A&M leads No. 17 Wake Forest (603), No. 16 Pepperdine (604), No. 24 Stanford (606), No. 15 Oklahoma State (607), BYU (609), TCU (616), No. 9 Arizona (617), No. 7 Denver (619), Ohio State (624) and No. 23 Michigan State (627).
Pepperdine's Taylore Karle is the individual leader with a one-under total of 70-71=141. McVeigh is tied for 12th (75-72=147) and Johnson is tied for 15th (76-72=148).
A&M's Ashley Freeman is tied for 34th (75-78=153), Sarah Zwartynski is tied for 43rd (78-77=155) and Miranda Orr is tied for 50th (80-77=157). Orr was four-over through three holes, but recovered by playing the final 10 holes in even par.
