Texas A&M volleyball player Kelsey Black has once again garnered national recognition, as she is one of 32 players to be named to the AVCA High School Senior All-America Team, the American Volleyball Association announced today.
The AVCA All-America honor is one of many prestigious accolades the highly touted 5-11 outside hitter from Amarillo, Texas, received for her prep accomplishments. Black also was recently named to PrepVolleyball.com?™s list of 2007 high school All-Americans and also received All-American honorable mention on Mizuno/Volleyball Magazine?™s list of 2007 Girls High School All-Americans.
Black, who began attending classes at A&M and training with the Aggies at the start of the spring semester, starred at Amarillo High School and led the Lady Sandies to back-to-back Texas 5A high school state titles in her final two years. Amarillo finished the 2007 season 43-1 and ranked No. 2 in the nation in 2007. During her three seasons as a starter, Black led the Lady Sandies to an impressive 129-5 (.963) record.
The 2007 District 2-5A Offensive Player of the Year, Black was ranked in the top 50 in PrepVolleyball.com?™s Top 100 Senior Aces, coming in at No. 42. In addition, she was a three-time all-state selection by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and has participated in numerous USA Volleyball High Performance Camps.
Black and the Aggies are tentatively scheduled to compete in their first spring exhibition match on April 5. The complete spring competition schedule, including opponents, locations and times, will be announced later.
