Senior All-American Amanda Scarborough was listed as one of 30 of the nation?â„¢s best college softball players who have been selected as the 2008 candidates in the softball division of the Lowe?â„¢s Senior CLASS Award, the association announced today.
"Amanda has become a great leader,? A&M head coach Jo Evans said. ?She works hard every day and is a
great teammate. As good as she already is, I am impressed with the way
she continues to push herself to improve, whether it be on the mound or
at the plate. She has great enthusiasm for the game and is a complete
player. She has been a huge part of our success in the past three
years. She also takes great pride in playing softball for Texas A&M. She works hard on the field but she also takes care of her job in the classroom as well.?
To date Scarborough owns a 1.45 ERA through 102 appearances collecting 27 complete game shutouts along the way. To complement her stellar pitching performances, Scarborough is a consistent threat at the plate. She carries a career .356 batting average, driving in 124 RBIs off 42 doubles, six triples and 25 homeruns.
The award, presented to NCAA Division I student-athletes each year in eight sports, focuses on the ?Four C?â„¢s? of classroom, character, community and competition.
This marks the second year for the softball division of the Lowe?â„¢s Senior CLASS Award. Arizona outfielder Caitlin Lowe was the inaugural winner in 2007.
From the list of 30 nominees, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the Lowe?â„¢s Senior CLASS Award in late March 2008. Those ten names will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote that will include coaches, media and fans. The award winner will be announced and recognized at the 2008 NCAA Women?â„¢s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
