The No. 21-ranked Texas A&M women?™s golf team plays host to the 15th Annual Texas A&M ?Mo?morial Friday through Sunday at Traditions Golf Club.

Play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, 8 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.

The tournament is named for former A&M standout Monica Welsh, who died in an automobile accident in 1992.

In addition to A&M, the15-team field includes Oklahoma, TCU. Denver, UTEP, Nebraska, Kent State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Iowa State, Missouri, SMU, Baylor, Princeton and Mississippi. Eleven of the nation?™s top 100 players will be competing, led by Kent State?™s Kira Meixner (No. 36) and A&M?™s Danielle McVeigh (No. 40).

Joining McVeigh in the A&M lineup are sophomore Ashley Freeman, junior Lauren Johnson, freshman Sarah Swartynski and junior Jodi Neal. Freshman Sara Hemingway and senior Miranda Orr will compete as individuals. Johnson is ranked No. 80 nationally by Golfweek and Freeman is No. 97.

The Aggies have won five ?Mo?morial crowns, most recently in 2006. Arizona State won last year?™s event with A&M placing sixth.

A&M is coming off a runner-up finish at the Central District Invitational on Feb. 19 in Parrish, Fla. Freeman finished fifth in the individual standings while Johnson tied for seventh.

?We have a great field this year and are showcasing four top 25 teams and several from the top 35,? A&M Coach Trelle McCombs said. ?We are so ready to compete again. The players have worked very hard these last two weeks after a great showing in Florida.?
