Bronson Burgoon fired a one-under-par 71 on Friday to lead Texas A&M into sixth place after the opening round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The tournament continues through Sunday.
No. 8-ranked Southern California leads the 15-team event with a three-under 285, followed by No. 3 UCLA (288), UNLV (288), No. 4 Charlotte (289), No. 2 Georgia (289), A&M (291), No. 11 Florida (293), No. 6 Georgia Tech (297), No. 5 Oklahoma State (297), Arizona (297), Arizona State (298), Texas (305), Minnesota (306), Hawaii (308) and Air Force (319).
Burgoon is tied for 10th in the individual standings, three strokes behind co-leaders Jonas Enander Hedin of Charlotte (68) and Matt Kinsinger of UNLV (68). Burgoon was two-over through five holes, but played the final 13 holes in three-under.
A&M's Robert Gates is tied for 16th (72), Matt Van Zandt is tied for 21st (73), Austin Schauer is tied for 36th (75) and Nacho Elvira is tied for 58th (78).
