The Texas A&M men?â„¢s golf team shot a school-record 271 during Tuesday?â„¢s final round action at the Barona Creek Golf Club to run away with the Barona Collegiate Cup Championship in dominant fashion.
The Aggies?â„¢ 54-hole score of 831 (37-under-par) was also a school record, eclipsing the previous 54-hole low of 835 set earlier this year at the Burns Intercollegiate.
San Diego State (847) finished in a very distant second followed by San Diego (851), Oklahoma State (853), SMU (860), Wichita State (861), Nevada (864), Arizona (869), Illinois (874), Denver (886), Oklahoma (888) and Coastal Carolina (896).
Texas A&M freshman Nacho Elvira (67-71-66- 204) won the individual title at 12-under-par. Andrea Pavan (68-70-69- 207) finished in a tie for second at nine-under-par. Bronson Burgoon (71-69-68- 208) and Robert Gates (71-69-69- 209) tied for fourth and sixth overall respectively. Matt Van Zandt (78-71-68- 217) shot his second straight round under par on Tuesday.
Of the 15 rounds turned in by the Aggies in the tournament, 14 of them were under par.
?This was just a fantastic tournament,? A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. ?Our players executed well in all facets of the game. They were excellent both mentally and physically and I think we showed how talented we are. I could not be more proud of our guys, they did a fantastic job all tournament long.?
The Aggies will return to action on March 24 when they tee it up at the United States Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Georgia.
