After improving to a perfect 18-0 in the circle, Texas A&M?â„¢s Megan Gibson was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today. It was Gibson?â„¢s seventh career Big 12 weekly award and fourth this season.
Gibson made two appearances on the mound last week leading the Aggies to wins over No. 15 Baylor and Texas Tech. The senior started Big 12 play with a 7-0 shutout of the Bears, allowing just four hits. She struck out seven and walked two en route to her 17th victory of the season. Gibson picked up her 18th win against Texas Tech in extra innings. The senior worked nine complete innings and struck out a career-high 16 batters.
At the plate, Gibson hit at a .333 clip, scoring two runs and drawing four walks to extend her Big 12-career lead to 148. The two-time NFCA All-American leads the Big 12 in ERA (0.78), wins (18), walks (31), shutouts (9), innings pitched (125) and complete games (18).
Tallie Thrasher was named Big 12 Player of the Week after helping Texas to three wins, as she posted a 1.000 batting average at the plate for the Longhorns.
