Texas A&M recorded four victories on Thursday at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet hosted by Rice University.
All four wins for the Aggies were posted in the throwing events. The foursome included Deidre Tarver in the hammer, Jessica Wingfield in the javelin, Anteneshia Lindsey in the discus and Josh Tiemann in the men?™s discus.
Tarver established another personal best in the hammer with a winning mark of 167-8 (51.12). Last week at LSU Tarver reached a distance of 160-7 in her first outdoor competition.
Wingfield led an Aggie 1-2-3-4-5 sweep of the javelin, leading the group with a throw of 150-0 (45.73). Hillary Pustka followed as runner-up with a 148-2 (45.16). Emalie Humphreys finished third with a 141-1 (43.02) as Hali Henderson (134-8 / 41.06) and Ilsa Rodriguez (134-7 / 41.04) placed fourth and fifth.
Lindsey paced a 1-2-4 finish for A&M in the discus. Her mark of 155-0 (47.24) won the event while Humphreys placed second with a career best distance of 145-9 (44.42). Tarver finished fourth with a toss of 141-3 (43.07).
The Aggies also posted a 1-2 finish in the men?™s discus with Tiemann tossing the platter 172-3 (52.52) as teammate Dylan Conway followed with a 168-5 (51.33). Tiemann also contested the hammer for the first time this season, placing eighth with a mark of 140-9 (42.92).
Another runner-up effort in the field events included Nicholas Cook 53-4 ?˝ (16.27) in the shot put.
On the track Elizabeth Slaughter lowered her personal best in the 5,000 meters by 10 seconds as she was second in 17:31.42 with teammate Sarah Balfour also claiming a career best of 17:31.53 for third place.
Lindsey added a third place in the shot put, getting a mark of 45-11 ?ľ (14.01). A&M record holder Kasey Onwucheckwa won the event with an effort of 53-8 ?Ľ (16.36).
Other third place efforts in the field events included Brandon Letsinger clearing 6-8 ?ľ (2.05) in the high jump and Josh Posten in the javelin 192-0 (58.53). Jacob Rodriguez finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 187-1 (57.04).
Wes Caceras finished third in the 1,500 with a personal best of 3:54.57 while Dusty Langwell placed eighth in 3:58.53. A time of 14:48.41 earned David Hebert a career best as he placed third in the 5,000.
Joe Sauvageau turned in a time of 9:27.20 for third place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Graham Northcutt set a personal best of 9:44.10 for seventh place.
Brenna Williamson set a career best of 4:37.97 to place fourth in the 1,500. Jonathan Colllins finished fourth in the 400 (48.37).
Aggie multi-event athletes Trinity Otto and Sarah Pierson each contested a couple of events. Otto threw the javelin 137-3 (41.84), the discus 130-9 (39.86) and had a mark of 39-9 ?ľ (12.13) in the shot put. Pierson produced a 104-11 (31.99) in the javelin while getting a 34-7 ?˝ (10.55) in the shot put.
Michael Marek ran his best time in the 800, clocking 1:56.16 to finish sixth in his heat and 13th overall. Other Aggie runners in the men?™s 5,000 had Maximo Mendoza placing 13th (15:49.17) with Ben Schulz finishing 15th (16:12.91).
