No. 22-ranked Texas A&M carded a final round of 320 on Sunday and finished second at the Big 12 Women?â„¢s Golf Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Club.
Playing on its home course, No. 9 Oklahoma State posted a 912 total to finish 27 strokes ahead of the Aggies (315-304-320=939). No. 21 Texas was third (958), followed by Missouri (959), Oklahoma (965), Nebraska (968), Texas Tech (986), Kansas State (989), Iowa State (994), Kansas (998), Colorado (1,1002) and Baylor (1,021).
OSU?â„¢s Jaclyn Sweeney captured the individual title by four shots with a 74-74-77=225 total. The Cowgirls?â„¢ Karin Kinnerud placed second at 76-76-77=229.
A&M sophomore Danielle McVeigh (78-75-80=233) and freshman Sarah Zwartynski (77-73-83=233) tied for fourth, junior Lauren Johnson (80-82-77=239) finished 14th, sophomore Ashley Freeman (80-82-80=242) tied for 19th and senior Miranda Orr (83-74-86=243) tied for 21st.
The Aggies had won the previous two league titles over the Cowgirls. A&M has placed in the top two at the Big 12 Championship in four of the last five years.
"We didn't play as loose as I think we could have," A&M Coach Trelle McCombs said. "We have some things to work on for the next 10 days to get ready for regionals."
The Aggies will likely receive a bid to the NCAA Central Regional May 8-10 in Austin. The NCAA Championship is May 20-23 in Albuquerque.
