The top-seeded Baylor women won their third-straight and third overall Big 12 Conference Tennis Championship Sunday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Bears defeated second-seeded Texas, 4-1, to earn the conference?â„¢s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The start of the match was delayed an hour and 15 minutes because of rain, and singles matches were played first due to the threat of more inclement weather.
On the men's side, second-seeded Baylor upset top-seeded Texas, 4-2, to claim its sixth Big 12 Championship title and the league's automatic bid.

BAYLOR HEAD COACH JOEY SCRIVANO
?It?â„¢s a great feeling (on winning on third Big 12 Championship). We played very well today. Texas is such a good opponent. It?â„¢s tough to beat a team twice basically in a week. I was really proud of the way we played today. It was under tough conditions. Anytime you have this kind of wind, you?â„¢ve really got to focus. You can?â„¢t play any loose points. We had a big bull?â„¢s eye on our back today, so that was an added pressure. I?â„¢m really proud of the way we played.?
?This is our first postseason tournament of the year and obviously we succeeded, so it?â„¢s a good start. In Tulsa (site of the 2008 NCAA Championships) it?â„¢s going to be tougher, so we?â„¢re going to have to play at a higher level and be even more focused and more determined. This is definitely a start and we would like to be hoisting that brown and gold trophy in about a month for sure.?
TEXAS HEAD COACH PATTY FENDICK-McCAIN
?Baylor played a little too well for us today. They are a tough team and I thought that our players fought really well. We had a pretty late night last night, so it was good to see them come out and put out the effort that they did today. We really just wanted to get into doubles, but unfortunately that just didn?â„¢t happen today (with the threat of more inclement weather).?

BAYLOR HEAD COACH MATT KNOLL
?The thing about our whole season has been adversity. We?â„¢ve faced a lot this year, and we haven?â„¢t done a great job overcoming it. Today we did. We didn?â„¢t have Lars (Poerschke) out there, and rather than feel sorry for ourselves, our guys really rallied and circled the wagons. They came out and fought hard on every court. We won three three-set matches and that was the difference today.?
?This is a different group. I?â„¢m proud of a guy like Jordan Rux (who clinched the match at No. 6 singles). It?â„¢s neat for him to come out and be the guy out there at the end and come through for the team. That?â„¢s real special for me to see a young guy go out and achieve like that. It?â„¢s part of the process for him to get better and better. We?â„¢re going to be back here in a couple years talking about him being one of the best players in the country. It?â„¢s neat for all of our young guys to have a chance to be a part of this (Big 12 Championship).?
TEXAS HEAD COACH MICHAEL CENTER
?I knew playing singles, and with (Lars) Poerschke out, that we were significantly favored at No. 2 and No. 4, and that we need to get something at the other spots. We had chances, but we just didn?â„¢t get them. It is disappointing because I thought we had some opportunities to put them (Baylor) away, but it just didn?â„¢t happen today.?
