Texas A&M junior shortstop Jos?© Duran (Fort Worth, Texas) was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week by a select media panel, the league office announced Monday.

In earning the first weekly honor of his career, Duran hit a team-high .421 in four road games last week with a home run, eight RBI and six runs scored. The junior, who featured a team-best .542 on-base percentage, hit safely in all four contests and racked up three multi-hit games. Five of his eight RBI came with two outs.

Duran, a strong candidate for Big 12 Player of the Year, leads the league in hits (89) and ranks second in batting average (.394) and total bases (129) while sitting two back of the conference lead in RBI (57). He has hit safely in 44 of A&M?â„¢s 52 games in 2008, and has 29 multi-hit games on the year. Duran carries a 22-game hit streak, the second longest in school history, into the final four games of the regular season.

It was the fourth weekly honor for A&M in 2008 and second on the offensive side. Junior Luke Anders earned player of the week honors on April 28, while freshman Brooks Raley (March 10) and sophomore Travis Starling (April 21) earned pitcher of the week accolades. Duran became the 14th Aggie all-time to win the award.

Mizzou?â„¢s Kyle Gibson was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

No. 7 Texas A&M returns to action Tuesday when the Aggies (42-10) travel to Arlington to face UT Arlington (22-29). First pitch at Clay Gould Ballpark on the UTA campus is set for 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate beginning two hours prior to first pitch.
