TOLUCA, Mexico- A pair of Aggies will be part of the United States team, which numbers 78 athletes, competing in the 2008 NACAC under-23 Track and Field Championships during the weekend of July 18-20 in Alberto Cordoba Stadium. The meet is held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association.
Nick Robinson and Chris Dykes, who each earned All-American honors this past collegiate season for the Aggies, will participate in the meet. Robinson will be running in the 400 hurdles while Dykes is a member of the relay pool for the 4 x 100.
Dykes ran the anchor leg of Texas A&M’s silver-medal 4 x 100 relay team at the NCAA Championships and finished third in the 200 meters. Robinson placed fifth in the NCAA finals of the 400 hurdles and ran third leg on the relay squad that earned silver medals in the NCAA 4 x 400.
The site of the meet is approximately one hour from Mexico City and is at a higher altitude than the capital city. Toluca, based at 8,700 feet, is Mexico’s highest city and its rapidly growing urban area makes it the fifth largest city in Mexico.
Countries involved in the competition include Netherland Antilles, Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Cayman Islands, Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago.
