COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Seven members of the Texas A&M track & field program were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams on Tuesday.

Olympian Allison George (St. Andrew’s, Grenada), two-time All-American Jessica Wingfield (Richardson), and two-time All-American Sandy Wooten (Mineral Wells) make up the list of Aggie women’s honorees.

George, a junior at A&M this past season, will compete in the 100 and 200 meters later this month in Beijing while Wingfield, a senior, was an All-American in the javelin in 2005 and 2007. Wooten, who just completed her sophomore year, was a member of the NCAA finalist 1,600-meter relay team each of the past two seasons.

On the men’s side, Terry Dike (Houston), Kevin McNab (St. Louis), Jacob Rodriguez (Sugar Land), and Joe Sauvegeau (Katy) were honored as well. McNab, a junior, earned All-American honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase this past season. Dike, a former student body president candidate, and Sauvageau both are currently in pursuit of degrees in engineering. Rodriguez is working on a degree in environmental design.

“This honor speaks very highly of the young men and women who are truly student-athletes,” A&M head track & field coach Pat Henry said. “They take pride in everything they do, not only in track and field, but in the classroom and away from athletics as well. I am very proud of our student-athletes here at Texas A&M.”

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
