COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The Texas A&M football team had a pair of workouts on Wednesday as the Aggies continued preparations for the 2008 season.

“It was a long day,” head coach Mike Sherman said. “We were outside both practices. It was a hot day. I thought this morning went well. As always, we have some things that we need to work on, but there were some good things as well.

One of the “good things” Sherman pointed out was the progress of true freshman defensive back Trent Hunter from Katy High School.

“Some of the young guys are stepping forward,” Sherman said. “Trent Hunter had a good day. If he continues to improve, he’s probably going to help us (this year). He was a pleasant surprise today.”

Junior running back Mike Goodson (Klein, Texas / Collins HS) also returned to action after missing several days of practice with an injury.

“He looked a little rusty to me,” Sherman said. “It’s a great example of why you have to practice. He dropped two balls in critical situations and couldn’t finish the long run. A lot of that has to do with that he hasn’t been out here.”

Sherman also clarified the injury status of senior fullback Jorvorskie Lane (Lufkin HS), who sat out the afternoon practice.

“He has a ?'stinger,’ which when you play that position, it’s your middle name,” Sherman said. “It’s going to be a part of the job description unfortunately because he does a lot of blocking. He has a stinger that we’re keeping an eye on to make sure everything is OK. His head was OK. We were concerned that he had a mild concussion but that wasn’t the case.”

The Aggies return to practice with a single workout starting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Coolidge Practice Fields.
