COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team is back on campus and already involved in the community as it partnered with Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity's Women Build project on Saturday.

The team and coaching staff volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for the Searcy family in Bryan, Texas. Glenda Searcy and her children, the future homeowners, were on site and worked with the Aggies. A&M softball raised the walls and trusses on the first day of the construction project.

"This was a great experience," said head coach Jo Evans. "We wanted to get out and work as a team in an environment where we were giving back to a community that shows Texas A&M such great support. We couldn't think of a better chance to give back than to work with Habitat for Humanity. We fully support Habitat's mission of providing the opportunity of housing to everyone in our community and we really enjoyed being able to work with the Searcy family in building their future home."

The Aggies helped with the Circle of Women build, which is an annual project community involvement and philanthropy for women in the BCS community. Local women pledged over $55,000 and will work on the construction site over 12 weeks to complete the Searcy home.

A&M softball is set to begin fall practices on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The Aggies ended their 2008 season with a school-best 57 wins, earning their second Big 12 regular season title and first ever Big 12 Championship tournament title en route to a second consecutive, seventh all-time Women's College World Series appearance.
