AGGIE SOFTBALL SET FOR FALL SEASON
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team hosts two doubleheaders and travels to Spring, Texas, for four contests to complete its eight-game fall schedule, head coach Jo Evans announced Tuesday.
"The fall season is a great opportunity for us to evaluate our young players in game situations and to juggle our line-ups a bit," said Evans. "We return several talentedathletes and add some promising new players to our roster this year. We are excited to jump right into competition and to battle some very good teams early on."
The fall seasons begins Tuesday, Sept. 30, with a doubleheader against Temple Junior College at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The following weekend Aggie softball travels to Collins Park in Spring, Texas, for the Spring Klein College Classic. A&M faces Texas State and Louisiana Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 4, before taking on Texas San Antonio and Southern Mississippi on Sunday, Oct. 5.
The fall slate concludes with two games at home against Blinn College on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The Aggies return 10 letterwinners from a 2008 squad that ended the season with a school-best 57 wins. A&M earned its second Big 12 regular season title and first ever Big 12 Championship tournament title en route to a second consecutive, seventh all-time Women's College World Series appearance.
In her 13th season as the Aggies' head coach, Evans earned her third Big 12 Coach of the Year honor last season. In addition, Evans and Associate Head Coaches Mary Jo Firnbach were voted the 2008 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Newcomers on the roster for the 2008-09 campaign include freshmen Eden Morris (Cohutta, Ga.), Taryn Broussard (Lake Jackson, Texas), Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) and transfer Savana Lloyd (Kirkland, Wash.).
