COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior Laura Grace Robinson was selected as a candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Wednesday.
Robinson is one of 30 female senior student-athletes chosen as a hopeful for the award. The Houston, Texas, product qualified based her dedication and achievement in four areas: Classroom, Character, Community and Competition. She is one of two student-athletes chosen from the Big 12.
Off the field, Robinson is an accounting and finance double major in the Mays Business School Honors Program with a 3.78 grade point average. She is in Aggie Athletes Involved and HOSTS (Helping One Student to Succeed). On the field, the midfielder is one of two seniors on this year's squad. In the past three years she helped her team to a 53-14-5 record, back-to-back-to-back Big 12 regular season titles and three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2006.
From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee selects 10 finalists in October. Those 10 names are then placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote beginning Oct. 9 and concluding Nov. 19. Fan balloting is coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. Winners will be announced during the 2008 Division I Women's Soccer Championships in Cary, N.C., December 5-7.
