Alyssa Mautz, a freshman transfer from St. Louis University, has joined the defending Big 12 champion Texas A&M soccer team and will be playing with the Aggies this spring, head coach G Guerrieri announced this week.
?The timing of Alyssa?™s decision to come to Texas A&M couldn?™t have been any better for Aggie soccer fans,? Guerrieri said. ?She is exactly what we?™re looking for, and she can immediately help our attack. She is very skillful, very fast, very athletic, and very versatile. I am excited about her stepping in to compete for a spot in our line-up as a goal scorer and see her becoming a creative force on our front line during our non-traditional season this Spring semester.?
Mautz appeared in all 18 games, making 17 starts, for the Billikens during the 2007 season. She was second on the team in goals with five, four of which were gamewinners, and was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Freshman Team.
The O'Fallon, Mo.-native was twice voted Missouri High School Player of the Year and helped her team win the state championship in her senior season. Mautz was a member of the St. Louis Soccer Club under Coach Steve Pecher and played on the state and regional Olympic Development teams.
She is currently training with USA U20 National Team Camp in Carson, California through this weekend along with Aggie keeper Kristin Arnold.
?Alyssa is one of the greatest goal scorers to come out of Missouri high school soccer, which is quite an accomplishment knowing how many great players and national team stars have come from that state over the years," Guerrieri ended. ?And, even though she also gained experience at SLU as an attacking midfielder and with the U20 National Team as an attack minded outside back, our greatest need (and her greatest strength) is as a goal scorer. So, I am very excited to have her here this spring so that she can train daily with her new A&M teammates and so that she can get those five non-traditional season exhibition game dates under her belt, which will make her an even greater force for us in the upcoming fall NCAA campaign.?
