COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M sophomore Kelly Dyer was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player of the Week on Wednesday.
The Germantown, Tenn., native was chosen from a pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. She earned the award by posting a pair of shutouts for the seventh-ranked Aggies, including one against No. 9 Texas.
In addition to two shutouts in goal last weekend, Dyer tallied a career-high eight saves for the third time this season to hold the Longhorns scoreless through 110 minutes in a 0-0 double-overtime tie. The sophomore also helped A&M to its first conference victory with one save in a 1-0 win at Baylor.
For her efforts, Dyer was also named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week yesterday. She received the league honor for the second consecutive week, a feat no other Aggie soccer player has accomplished.
A&M returns to the Aggie Soccer Stadium on Friday to host No. 12 Oklahoma State in its first Big 12 action at home this year. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
