COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Jola Kelner (pronounced YO-la kel-ner), a junior setter at Texas A&M, has been named Player of the Week by American Volleyball Scouting Report.
In Kelner's first start since the first match of last season, the Poland native led A&M to a 3-2 25-27, 25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 15-4) victory against Big 12-foe Missouri Saturday at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
Kelner, who started in place of injured setter Kristen Schevikhoven, had 46 assists and directed the A&M offense to a .257 to .154 advantage in hitting percentage. She also had a career-high 13 digs and tied her career high with four kills - with no errors in nine attempts -- and six points.
AVSR editor Bill Feldman, one of college volleyball's most popular talent scouts, now focuses on foreign scouting and listed Kelner in his March 2006 edition of AVSR.
Kelner and the Aggies (7-8 overall, 2-3 Big 12) return to action Wednesday as they take on the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan. First serve is at 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.
