TULSA, Okla. - Texas A&M men's tennis player Wil Spencer (Ponce de Leon, Fla.) advanced to the third round of the qualifying singles draw at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships held Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Spencer, a sophomore right-hander for the Aggies, improved to a team-best 5-1 in fall tournament play after defeating Taylor Fogleman of North Carolina in three sets, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-2, for a shot at qualifying for Thursday's main draw. He will take on No. 89-ranked Dennis Lajola of Hawai'i tomorrow at 10 a.m.
In other action, sophomore All-American Austin Krajicek (Brandon, Fla.) fell to No. 92-ranked Jonas Berg of Mississippi, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 64. Krajicek and Berg last met each other in the semifinals of the 2008 NCAA Doubles Championship as A&M fell short of Ole Miss to play for the national doubles title in Tulsa.
The main draw begins on Thursday with Krajicek participating in doubles with senior All-American teammate Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas). The pair heads into competition as one of the top seeds in the draw with a No. 4 preseason ITA national ranking. Pollock will also compete in singles as the No. 17-ranked player in the country.
